Laminated Glass
Laminated glass is a composite glass made of a tough PVB interlayer film between glass and processed by high temperature and high pressure.
Laminated glass is a composite glass made of a tough PVB interlayer film between glass and processed by high temperature and high pressure. The toughness of the PVB film is very good. When the laminated glass is violently impacted and broken by the external force, the film layer absorbs a large amount of impact energy and rapidly attenuates it, so that the laminated glass is difficult to be broken down. Even if the laminated glass is broken, the glass fragments are basically adhered to the film, keeping the pieces on the entire laminated glass from dew, so it becomes a true safety glass.
Core Basic Parameters
UV blocking rate: ≥99%, providing long-term protection against ultraviolet rays to prevent indoor furniture and curtains from fading and aging.
Sound insulation performance: Standard 0.76 mm PVB laminated glass can reduce noise by approximately 30–35 dB. Compared with ordinary insulated glass, it offers superior attenuation of low-frequency noise, such as traffic and human voices.
Impact resistance: Complies with the national standard GB 15763.2 for safety glass, capable of withstanding steel ball impact without penetration.
Real-World Application Cases
Case 1: Residential Balcony Floor-to-Ceiling Windows / Sunroom (Most Common)
Many high-rise residential buildings require laminated glass for floor-to-ceiling windows. Scenarios: accidental impact on balcony glazing or glass shattering during a typhoon. Results: the glass cracks but does not collapse; fragments remain adhered to the interlayer, preventing debris from falling and injuring pedestrians below. At the same time, it effectively blocks low-frequency road noise and provides protection against sunlight and ultraviolet radiation.
Common configuration: 5+0.76PVB+5 laminated glass
Case 2: Indoor Glass Railings and Stair Handrails
Scenario: Children running and bumping into objects, or striking hard surfaces. Effect: Even if the glass cracks, the shards won’t scatter and cause injury, making it far safer than ordinary tempered glass.
Case 3: Architectural Skylights and Canopies
Scenario: Falling objects (such as flower pots or hailstones) impact the structure. Effect: After the glass breaks, it remains contained within the frame and does not fall off in large pieces, thereby preventing injury. Building codes mandate the use of laminated glass for skylights.
Case 4: Bank Teller Windows, Museum Display Cases
Scenario: Violent impact. Effect: The PVB interlayer continuously absorbs impact energy, making it highly resistant to direct penetration and providing anti-theft protection.
Case 5: Automotive Windshield
The vehicle’s entire front windshield is made of laminated glass, so in the event of a collision, it will not shatter into sharp fragments that could injure occupants.
FAQ
Q1: What is the difference between laminated glass and tempered glass?
A:
Tempered glass: When broken, it shatters into small particles that may detach and scatter; in high‑altitude applications, it can easily fall off as a whole piece.
Laminated glass (which can be laminated and tempered): After breakage, the fragments remain adhered to the interlayer, preventing them from falling or scattering, thus offering a higher level of safety; it also provides superior sound insulation and enhanced UV protection.
Recommendation: For high-rise floor-to-ceiling windows, skylights, and railings, laminated glass should be prioritized.
Q2: Will laminated glass fog up or allow water to enter?
A: Qualified PVB laminated glass is manufactured through a high‑temperature, high‑pressure integrated molding process, so it does not have the sealed cavity found in insulated glass units; under normal use, it will not allow water ingress or fogging. Delamination and whitening of the interlayer only occur when substandard materials are used or when the glass is subjected to prolonged immersion in water.
Q3: Is the sound-insulating performance of laminated glass better than that of insulated glass?
A: For low-frequency noise—such as traffic and residential chatter—laminated glass offers a clear advantage; for blocking high‑frequency wind noise alone, insulated glass is also a good choice. For street‑facing units, we recommend a laminated–insulated glass combination (e.g., 5+0.76PVB+5+12A+5), which balances sound insulation with thermal performance.
Q4: How should you choose between PVB and SGP interlayer films for laminated glass?
A:
PVB: The mainstream choice for home decoration, offering excellent value for money with superior sound insulation and UV protection; ideal for balconies, sunrooms, and indoor railings.
SGP: Higher strength and tear resistance; commonly used for large curtain walls and skylights; significantly more expensive than PVB.
Q5: Do I need to replace laminated glass immediately after it breaks?
A: If cracks appear but there is no extensive delamination, the item can be used temporarily, though its strength will be reduced; replacement is recommended as soon as possible. If the film turns white, blisters, or delaminates, it must be replaced immediately.
Q6: Can laminated glass be bulletproof?
A: Standard residential‑grade PVB laminated glass is not bulletproof; only multi‑layer, thickened, specially laminated glass qualifies as bulletproof—something you don’t need to consider for home use.
Product Features
01
Safety
The laminated glass installed on the building is impacted by any external force. Even if the glass is broken, it can remain intact in the original frame. The inside and outside of the building will not be damaged by the splashed glass fragments.
02
UV protection
It has a great barrier effect on ultraviolet light in sunlight, and the ultraviolet light rate is as high as 99% or more to avoid ultraviolet radiation.
03
Noise reduction
The PVB film has a barrier to sound waves, which reduces noise.
